The SQL series is our best performance-to-cost subwoofer ever produced. Focused on providing a solid SQ sound platform with the addition of gut-wrenching bass if required. Fully designed using FEA simulation software the SQL series was designed specifically for what the name implies, Sound Quality Loud.
Motor topology is an SGLC overhung design utilizing a solid copper windings 2.75″ voice coil wound on a split black anodized aluminum former. Using a 2.75″ diameter coil yields the best of both worlds between a 2.5″ and a 3.0″ coil diameter – it has less inductance than a 3″ coil but more motor force than a 2.5″ coil. Coil and overall mass balance have been carefully calculated and measured using multiple Klippel test sessions to end up with a 50 mm winding width coil (voice coil winding height). Inside the Y35 grade magnet structure rests a solid aluminum faraday ring which reduces inductance for improved transient attack characteristics.
Large 8 3/8″ dual Nomex spiders provide a uniform suspension compliance curve to mitigate suspension distortion over linear stroke. The spiders stiffen up when they are supposed to, at/near the limits of Xmax, to help cope with additional excursion when the situation calls for it. Voice coil lead wires are dual mirror flat woven leads that are sewn onto the top of the spider providing symmetrical compliance on both sides of the spider to eliminate coil rocking which single leaded spiders are known for.
A stiff natural dried treated paper cone and tall roll rubber surround rest at the top of the SQL series subwoofer. The paper pulp cone adds just the right amount of mass for improved low-frequency reproduction. And the tall rubber surround politely compliments the dual Nomex spiders for a perfectly balanced suspension curve. Click on the white BL/Kms plot next to the pictures of the subwoofer to see the Klippel results.
Last but not least is the enclosure design criteria and overall performance of the SQL series. The SQL series subwoofers can operate in a very small sealed enclosure or small to medium-sized vented enclosures. The low F3’s of the SQL’s sealed enclosures allow them to play down to 8 Hz in their very small sealed enclosure volumes. A careful balance of motor force and moving mass are what make them such low-end monsters in their very small sealed boxes. The clean output capability at full volume is a direct result of their 28 mm one-way linear Xmax.
Clean, loud, broad bandwidth, small enclosures. All of the latter are easily achieved with our SQL series subwoofers.
