Hey, the Grand Master of High Efficiency speakers is here. Mike Bates? from Ohio?
I read your posts on the Lansing Forum where you had used (2) Audax PR170M0 drivers per side along with your Karlson bass cabinets. Are you allowed on the Lansing Forum? or have you been banned for some odd reason? I have a thread on there about my finding a 1939 RCA Shearer Bass bin from the theatre in my hometown in Ky. Identify Theatre Speaker for me? - Lansing Heritage Forums If you cannot get to the thread here are some pics: Here is what my buddy found in the theatre that had been in use since '39 ![]() Unfortunately, the inbred, backwoods, anus-sucking, penis licking, third owner of the theatre threw away the coveted field-coil midrange drivers and horn over the weekend that my buddy was going to pick it up on. So anyway, he got the bass bin and he drove it down here (8hrs )..... and I cleaned it up, painted it, and installed some JBL 2226H drivers in it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's final resting place. ![]() This thing filled up the entire theatre all those years and is supposed to be one of the best pant-leg flapping, chest thumping, bass bins of all time from 40hz on up. We have not fired it up yet, but will be taking measurements on a PC based system when we do. So after reading how you like the sound of those Audax over the compression drivers, I'm building some open baffle cabinets to mount on my side walls of my garage where the bass bin is ( you can see the pics in the above thread ) I'm going to use the Ciare 1.38 tweeters (Italian)which are 105db/eff/1 watt to match up with the two Audax drivers. It's known for it's warm, lifelike sound. It will also handle 150 watts ![]() Anyway, I wanted to confirm that you were using a .11 inductor on the Audax to roll off the top end of them. Also, where in Ohio do you live? We lived in Newark for 18 years and go back up on occasion, I'd love to take a side trip to your place and hear your system if possible. Thanks for getting in touch with me, Marty
