Any sub can be used ported but you will need a lot and a lot of space and EQ tuning available.
Regarding the BM, if you look at the T/S, you'll see that it won't work in ported alignment. Yes you can use them in a ported box but you will only be able to use them with let's say 200rms for both, EQ the low end like crazy and so forth.

Just making things up really, but I remember someone giving an explanation like the one above for the SI Mag v.4

Kelvin

PS: Have your amp fixed and report back with feelings. If you look @ the T/S, you can see that the FS is way lower on the BM meaning it will go lower effortlessly.

Hope that helps.

I was hoping to use one of these subs ported. Looks like I'd have to do two sealed, but I'm currently running a pair of eD SQ10's sealed and am not happy with their low end output at all. They are currently underpowered, getting only 125watts apiece, but I'm still not sure if it'll be worth upgrading to the BM's, building a new enclosure, and getting my 550w Blade Grenade G5 amp fixed (probably around $900 altogether) if I won't be able to use a ported enclosure.

For my install, the sub is there to complement the SLS 8's in the doors of a '93F150 single cab pickup, so I really only need low end extension from 50hz on down. Is 550w bridged to a pair of sealed BM's going to offer that much improvement over the SQ10's?

I guess what I should do is get my amp fixed and see how the SQ10's do when they're properly powered, and reevaluate. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the SQ10's are just underpowered, but something tells me I'll be back.

So just to make sure I didn't misunderstand -- the new BM will not perform admirably in any ported enclosure?
Going two sq10's to two BM 12's is going to yield a gain of roughly 3 dB without taking into consideration the BM's ability to out-displace the eD 10's by a factor of 50% from what eD claims. Once you take the extra displacement into consideration along with the added surface area, you have a lot more potential for output.

But yes, you are correct in that the BM mkIII's will NOT perform well in ported enclosures (if you port them, you completely void your warranty), as they are sealed only subwoofers.

Well thanks for the clarifications. Back to the drawing board then.

Oh well, on the bright side at least the enclosures will be smaller and easier to build, and I can spring for one at a time if I build separate enclosures.
