Talking New mag 1 day blown lol

Speaker blown day 1.

1. Box designed in CAD. CATIAv5 R18.

2. AMP installed. Rockford Fosgate P1000bd.

3. Dead speaker. MAG D2v4.

Thanks Nick for the fast response and great customer support. Will keep my eye on the site/forums...former MICHIGAN TECH student here.

From my experience with this sub i liked my 12" MTX blue thunder old school sub better.

Thanks for posting the pictures - classic example of what happens when you send the driver too much power. When the windings come off the former and end up on the inside of the former on top of the pole you've definitely gone over the limit. Your box was also too big. In 1.2 ft^3 after driver displacement your power handling was lower than 1000 watts (more like 800'ish). We recommend 1 ft^3 exactly for a reason.

Jesus Christ man, how the hell did you manage that? Being a rep Nick was kind enough to send me a b-stock driver that had a couple cosmetic flaws, he wanted me to try and blow it on my SAE-1000D so we could test the power handling. I free aired it for like 10 minutes with my amp all the way up, and all it did was get warm. How the hell did you manage that.

Just took one good song...sounded like it was finally breaking in. Gain was turned all the way down.

About the volume you see in the picture that was the rough estimate that is also including the thickness of the material in the volume.

If you send us the driver we'll tear it down and see if there was something that went wrong on our end. As stated in our warranty, if it's due to a manufacturing defect we're more than happy to replace the driver. We have yet to replace a driver due to a blown coil, but once we open it up you never know - all the other coils (on our v1/v2/v3's) have had clear signs of rocking or bottoming out or burnt spider leads, etc. But like I said, we're more than happy to take a look at it for you. We'll even arrange for UPS to pick it up free of charge.

To be honest I would like you to look at the speaker to make sure there were no defects in it. I am doubtful that there were any. I heard a clapping noise when i turned it up. That must mean i was over extending it?

When i put the speaker in the box i noticed i have more room behind the speaker then i thought about another 1-2inches of room.

You were bottoming it out, that noise you heard was the voice coil former hitting the back plate.

Figured that. Dang this is a nice amp, turned it down when i heard it; was not at max power. Heard no clapping before it let go. Going to try an Fi BL or RE SX 12" next i think depending on the clearance inside the box.

No need to send the speaker back. My BAD.

Most of those RF 1000s will do 1300 watts or so, FYI
