I have 2 BM MKIII right now and hoping to get 2 more as soon as some pop up for sale.
How does the BM MKIII do down firing? I am designing a box for my crew cab silverado and need to decide if I am going to put my box under the rear seat down firing or behind the rear seat in a wedge shaped box. I want to put it where I'll get the best sound and also keep the install stealth. Also, I have 2 Alpine MRD-M1005 amps. They are rated at 700 wrms @ 4 ohm and 1000 wrms @ 2 ohm @ 14.4 volts. I'm looking for opinions on the best way to run them. I had planned run each sub off of its own amp with the sub wired to 2 ohms or possibly 8 ohms (not sure of rated power of the amps at 8 ohm). I figured if I set the gains correctly I shouldn't have a problem, but I am a little worried about blowing the subs with too much power. I could run both of the subs wired to 8 ohms off of one of the amps, but I'm not sure if they would get enough power then. They should be getting 700 wrms, but that would be in a perfect 14.4 volt world and I only see that kinda voltage in my truck when its first started on a cold day. For some reason GM thought it would be a good idea to regulate the voltage so that once it senses the battery is about 80% charged it cuts the voltage. I regularly see about 12.5 to 13.0 volts in my truck after about 20 minutes of driving. Stupid idea! Any suggestions? I guess I could look for another amp that would be better suited for my needs. |

Down firing is what I would do. Many truck installs with our BM mkIII subwoofers have them down firing and the results have been fantastic.
About your amplifier, obviously it is capable of producing considerably more power than what the mkIII's can handle when wired down to 2 Ohms. In your current situation I would run both BM mkIII's at 8 Ohm so your amp sees a 4 Ohm load.

Yes I am saying in your current situation I would run both BM mkIII's at 8 Ohm so that one amp sees a 4 Ohm load. 200 to 250 watts each is more than enough for a pair of BM mkIII subwoofers.

I'm running my MKIII 8ohm on my Mcintosh MC431M. It's rated at 200 wrms @ 4 ohms mono. I'm guessing the MKIII is seeing about 150 watts. It is more than enough for me in my Ranger.
