well I recently went active with a 2 way front stage and mag for sub stage.
I replaced my sub RCA with a new pair cause the old ones were damaged and they cut in and out. well, now I get this flutter, almost like a very rapid thumping sound out of the sub. it is not very loud at all, but definitly there. if the volume is cut all the way off its not there, but as soon as you turn it to 1 its there. It does not increase with volume, in fact it gets drowned out at mid level, not high at all. I tried all 3 sets of RCA's on the sub amp by them selves to see if it were the cables and its presant all 3 times. So its not the RCA's (i don't think) and they are all matching RCA's. I checked my Head Unit ground and it is good, solid clean metal. And my main amp ground looks to be good as well. ANY IDEAS??? last night I tested a set of w16nx's that I recently got just to make sure they work and there was a weird sound coming from them too, almost like a crackle sound. HELP!

it does it when the car is running and power is on.
It does not do it when RCA's are disconnected. I tried 3 different RCA's and it does it every time.

It might be a ground problem...or a problem with the HU's RCA outputs. Did the noise get any better with the different RCA's or did it stay the same?

Try take a piece of wire and ground one end of it then touch the other end to the RCA exposed part that connects to the amp....
Does it go away ? I know we installed this one car and had noise that didn't sound like engine noise but made a rustling sound.. What it was is we had to wrap wire around the metal outer portion of the RCA that connected to the deck and then ground the other end... |
