Default TL mic + sealed proto Mag = ?

Here was the setup for today:

A tiny box (0.70 cubes) stuffed with polyfill.
SAE-1000D
1994 Civic Hatchback

We managed to do a 134.8 at 61 Hz legal (sealed up, mic on passenger-side windshield placement). Not too shabby for tiny sealed and a single SQ woofer.

Now we just wait for the production drivers to arrive! Then I'll have four Mag's in there with 500 watts each! Should be good for low-to-mid 140's out of 4 cubes.

Not to mention that after listening to the proto again I don't even want to put in a previous generation Mag because it sounds so bad compared to the new version.

I think I'll run a proto 12" version of the sd1 in there until production comes in.

I thought I have something special in the previous Mag, but when the guy who made it says that it's sounds like shit compared to another sub, it makes me sad......and want the new Mag more.

Anyway, 134.8 @ 61 Hz in a sealed box is awesome. I scored something in the mid 130s @ ~64 Hz with my Mag and it was ported and in a 95 Mustang's trunk with the seats down. I also used a Sundown SAE-1000D. Yeah, I know it can get louder (it started to skip at higher volumes, not sure if it's the sundown amp or the alpine head), but I NEVER, EVER play it that loud. I only did it for the TL. So that means the new Mag will get plenty loud for me, and I can't believe your making me want to replace my Mag.

Another thing, you just lost a BM buyer. I'm getting the new Mag instead.

LOL! That's fine if we lost a BM buyer as long as it's a loss to a Mag.

The Mag gets plenty loud enough, and that box was TINY. It's a 13x13x10.5 box. It's like a big shoebox and it's actually too small for the Mag.

If I understand correctly, I'll be good with 650w in 1.0cuft sealed... correct?
Should I use polyfill with that setup or just leave it as it is.

Oh yeah, 650 watts is more than enough, and you won't need to use polyfill with 1.0 cubes. We just used 1000 watts because we wanted to.

*edit* 1000 watts wasn't needed to get the driver to move full-stroke. We were probably only using 8-9 hundred for the reading.

It's kind of odd to watch it move so much with so little power.

I was impressed considering the tiny sealed enclosure!

Humm, I am hoping this will be loud enough for me then. I did 138.4 with my FI Q 12" in a 1.5 sealed box off 900rms and it was plenty loud for me, but could never get it to sound right. Gains were a little over half way on that amp and had nothing but problems with that sub. Just think I got a faulty sub myself.

Maybe I can rock one for the remainder of this year and get another one next year and sell my amp to get something bigger.

I currently have an Autotek 750.1 and my CVX seems as loud if not louder, but don't sound good on all music and same box.

I read on DIYMA that you were planning to send it to Klippel. I imagine they'll probably direct you to these guys anyways, but just in case they don't:

http://www.redrockacoustics.com/testing.html

Right in the US....very, very knowledgeable. They do all the testing for VoiceCoil Mag.

IIRC DIYMA still has the Klippel machine, so I was going to send it in to DIYMA. I'll check out redrockacoustics though. Thanks for the link Neil.

Anthony bought it back from Jeff, but I'm not sure who will be doing the testing...don't think Anthony had decided on a person to send it to. I was going to nominate myself (because a Klippel sure would be nice to have) but it seems like most of the members want someone in CA to have it.

I'd out who is doing it before sending it to anyone, personally. There are less than a handful of people I would trust there to test and interpret the results accurately.
