Default resonant frequency??

so today in electronics class we were talking about RLC circuits and what not and the word resonant frequency came up and i was wondering can someone explain this to me>? like in little words and maybe give an real life example of where or when it is good to use this knowledge of resonant frequency (s)!!

ya my teacher is a great teacher with a calc in his head but when it comes to teaching..he is better left working by himself teaching isn't his strong point at all!

thanks for your time
Kenneth

See if this helps any.

Read this article: Resonance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
and this one: Vibration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skip over the math, and you should still gain a basic understanding of resonance. You will need to know some of the math to actually figure out what ever you may be working on regarding frequency and resonance.

Then watch this video: YouTube - How to break a wine glass with sound - better version!

A real world usage example would be a crossover (high pass, bandpass, and low pass filters.) used in a speaker system, or figuring out what frequency a sub will provide max SPL.
