Default So I Kracked open some KNu Krystal RCA Kable

So I cracked open some Knukonceptz Krystal 4channel RCA cables that I just took out of my car(replaced with my own I made ). and as I suspected, quadruple shielding my ass!

None of the shields are grounded, I looked on both ends all look the same 2 wire conductor per rca. I cut that black heat wrap off on all of them.

1 side:

other side:

close up: they all look the same as this just different color conductor wires.

Looking for shielded RCAs? dont buy those...

Isn't that last shot a picture of the shielding? The shielding doesn't need to be grounded in order to have an effect. Like coax wire - double or quad shielded is on the outside of the actual conductors and not all two or four shields are used in grounding.

it does need to be grounded(atleast once if it shares a shield). even in a coax, you would strip it down to a center conductor , than some insulation then the braid shield would show, that braid shield would touch the outter portion of the coax connector or a metal sleeve would be slid there and crimped like on the canare connectors.

I have made a few Coax, BNC, and RCA cables before.

either way Nick, none of the shields are grounded!

I love how Knu's lawyers worded their site:

Quote:
Krystal Kable 2 Channel 4M Twisted Pair RCA Cable
( Knukonceptz Item #KRY2.4M )

Description: The Krystal Kable is one of the best cables on the market. It is the Fort Knox of cables. This cable contains 4 different types of shield / noise rejection characteristics all in one cable!. Features Include:

* Mylar Foil shield
* Tinned Copper Braid Covering 98% of the surface area

no mention if its a functioning shield or not...cant sue sorry.

Haha, gotcha. Well at least they had 4 layers in there.

It's true with coax - at the very least the outer shield is touching the very outside of the coax end.

the 4 layers of "sheild" thats not grounded can invite more noise, its like an antenna now.

You may want to go to one of those places with the little Asain girls who do manicures. when probing around in places the ladies don't like sharp edges

I've used both their KOL and KLM series kits that come with the corresponding RCA's and haven't had an issue with them. Sounds great and there's no interference at all. No overpriced gimmicks involved. Wire it right, and you won't have a problem. At least in my car. :/

not the point, not saying you will or not get noise. just saying its not using a functioning shield. very misleading.

There is no way any RCA shield can be grounded unless you make it yourself, so I don't see the issue here. Even if the shield were connected to the outer part of the RCA connector, that wouldn't matter as both amplifiers and HU RCAs are isolated from ground. Go meter them.
