Default SI Mag D2 V4 in BMW 325i

I saw Nick’s SI ad on DIYMA on New Year’s Eve Day – called him up (fellow Carolinian), and after reading the information on his site and having a long discussion of my goals, I decided this was the sub for me. It took a few months to finally purchase the sub and a couple more before I got it installed, but I’m really enjoying the sub. When my buddy (again Slade1274) and I were deciding on box shapes / sizes – it became apparent that we wanted to try an inverted set up. We ran a wire inside the box in case I want to mount it standard. The box is wedge shaped (angle of trunk back wall), 0.97 cu ft net sealed box.

These shots are for Nick - Mag vs. DIYMA 12

Building the box

Fiberglass + caulk = suckage!

I'm borrowing an amp right now (Alpine 400w mono) - the Mag plays exceptionally well with this little power - even in the black hole that is a BMW trunk. The Zuki small mono that will eventually be running it will have a bit more power.

Parting shots:

Great job on the box building. Glad to hear you like the sub.

Thanks - I like it a little more each day - it has become so much of the overall sound that I rarely think of the sub being back there. A couple of folks at the recent NC Meet in Statesville that Nick hosted liked the look of the reverse mount - I really love how that came out.

Haha.

I've actually been thinking of a substantial re-build in the amplifier department and have been thinking about swinging by your place for a weekend to get it done. There's nothing I dislike more than having a half-ass install (sounds great but looks like crap).

I don't know whether to keep the Mag's or wait until the BM's come out and do 2 of them in my Lexus on the sides of the trunk and move amps down to the floor of the trunk. If I keep the Mag's I'm going to ditch the twin 1000D's for a single 3000D at 2 Ohms which will actually be less power than the twin 1000's but it will look a little meaner. Decisions decisions.

That looks super clean in there. Top notch on the box too covered all the bases. Its amazing how quickly the mag disappears and your ear gets accustomed to hearing bass but no subwoofer. Its got the right amount of shine to it to really look classy in the truck there.
