Default Civic install day 1

Waking up early in the morning (6 AM) and searching 3 hours for your tweeters isn't exactly what I would call a good start. However, after finally finding the tweeters I started on the daunting task of installing the fronts and HU in the Civic.

After I gathered up all the equipment I tried to separate it on the counter:

Next up was removing the door skins, old head unit, Audax 5.25's, and misc. parts of the interior:

Here's what happens when you install an Eclipse 8454 in a Civic with BIG RCA's:

Here's a pic of behind the speaker at first:

And another after installing Speaker Tweaker's from Second Skin:

The "rubber" used in the tweakers is really really soft and almost tacky. I haven't done much listening so far but compared to my previous vehicle with the same midbass's and no tweakers it's a big difference (midbass is more solid).

Baffles had to be cut in order to fit the Koda's into the doors. A 3/4" cut of the same material we make our projection screens out of was used for weight (it weighs almost nothing) and for weather proofing (completely impervious to water).

And then another 1/4" piece of plywood was used (we didn't have any 1/4" pieces of the other material) because the window hit the back of the Koda's with only a single 3/4" spacer.

Here's a peak at what the final product looked like before the grills are put on:

The grills are still being worked on, but the tweeter mounting was interesting to say the least. The cool part is that the components are bi-amped (for now - we're going to test our own passive network soon) and they sound GREAT!

Pics look good, I like that camera you used. Must have been a nice Xmas present, huh?

I got the Koda's and fronts all figured out (one Koda was blown but thankfully I had one...just one left) and it sounds GREAT!

Thanks for all the help Jake.

I might have to resort to Koda 8's if either of my Koda 6.5's go south. It's taken me a LONG time to track down a good set of these puppies. Unless something drastic happens to them they should be good-to-go though. I've got steep x-over slopes on them and the right amount of power so they should be OK. I put my previous set through HELL accidentally (ran them full range with over 250 watts) and they lasted quite a while. Well...that was my second set of Koda's. The first set had burned voice coils due to a Hifonics amplifier failure. So I'm on set #3 now.

PS: Chick Corea's Light Years has really good midbass and a lot of cool / intricate sounds. If you don't have it in your collection I highly recommend picking it up.

was the mounting depth that bad on the koda or was it just the shallow civic doors?

Combination of the two really. The Koda's are pretty deep, but in the Integra they just needed a 3/4" spacer. Here they needed a 3/4" and a 1/4" spacer to clear the window.
