That looks pretty slick, man. Good work. The terminals, feet, and glossy finish look really classy. The only thing I can nitpick about is the spiral pattern you left on the tube, but I suppose that'd be a lot of work to get rid of. Hope it sounds as good as it looks! =)

Yeah, the spiral pattern that shows kind of annoys me but it would have been a nightmare to try and sand out. I could always just use a headliner material like everyone else, but I think it would still be visible.

Someone mentioned using wooden drum cylinders that come veneered after I had already started building mine...

I would have gone that route in a second had I known they were available.

They have been available for years, but kinda pricey.

Finally finished them and they are pretty damn big. Right now they are upside down because I had to use adhesive for the bottom endcaps because the added weight of the drivers was making them come loose.

I already had a chance to test them out last week and they are downright nasty. At about -20dB on the receiver things start getting a bit crazy, the windows flex and lights in the ceiling begin making noises. I need to go pick up a ratshack meter to get an idea of what kind of pressure level these bad boys are creating.

Without a doubt these trump my last subwoofer which was a 25" Tsuzureko in an 11ft^3 sealed enclosure. I'll be starting soon on the front mains and center, and probably just buy some surrounds that don't piss my wife off.

Still a bit undecided on what to use to finish the sonotubes and make the exterior a bit nicer. I'll figure something out though.

Indoor /Outdoor carpet that can be bought at Lowes works well, you can see part of the carpet in this picture. You can cut the carpet so that there is one seam which can end up on the back side. There are also other thin carpets that come in black, etc. that are also cheap to buy....like automotive carpets.

They actually weren't too hard to make. Shipping on these would be astronimical though.

A lot of guys have had good luck with automotive headliner too. It does a good job of hiding the spirals and is pretty cheap.

So do you just soak lots of resin into the tube from the inside?

You have to remove the plastic sheet on the inside of the Sonotube and then brush/roll on a good amount of the resin. The cardboard will soak it right up. I did one coat on the inside and two coats on the outside. You'll also need to lightly sand between the two exterior coats.

I did it mainly for the appearance, but in the end it made the tubes quite a bit stronger and less flexible.
