Default Home Theatre Build?

I was wondering what the difference between a home sub and a car sub is? I'm planning on putting my jl w7 into a home theatre and getting a 12" mag for my car. I build car boxes before but never done one for the home. Can I shield the sub? This will be my first home sub build.

You can shield the sub but it's going to take a bucking magnet and a BIG cover. I'm not sure if it's going to be worth it. What CRT TV are you putting so close to the W7?

I suppose if you had to classify a "home" sub and a "car" sub, one would be built for medium to large sealed or ported enclosures and the other would be built for small sealed to medium sized ported enclosures. However, a lot of companies just make things to look good and shove them at a particular market irregardless of actual specs.

Sorry for the late reply. Been busy with finals. I was planning to make my W7 into a home theatre sub for my bro's 47 mitsubishi tv. Its a projector or something. Its not an lcd, plasma, or the glass tvs. And im not sure if the reciever will do fine with the w7 since its a single 3 ohms voice coil. That weird sh*t JL uses so that ppl that buy their subs would buy their amps as well. You think ill be better off using the 12 SI Mag for home rather than my w7? Thanks for the reply appreciate it.

It really depends on what you want. If you want more output and don't mind a mini-fridge-sized enclosure, go with the w7. If you want a tiny box, go with the Mag.
