I mean, I was obsessing over an Xcon for a while and I am still very curious, but for $400 for an 18" sub, the close competitor in pricing would be an Maelstrom-X, which fits my sub criteria to a t. We all have options, and make our choices, I do not know what I am really expecting from an Xcon. Always in search of the holy grail, but as I see it, the Maelstrom-X came out earlier, and it looks better on paper, at least to me anyways, but yet the Xcon still fascinates me, but for what reason is beyond me, it's like I have been given an Xcon love potion. But then again, the Xcon is not the first sub that gave me a "hard-on" before I could hear it, and I am quite sure, it won't be the last.

Beating out the Maelstrom-X from an SQ standpoint is going to be TOUGH to do!!!! I don't see any other driver beating that sucker (the Maelstrom) out. XBL^2, shorting rings, and the rest of the package makes complete sense from an SQ standpoint. You've got more linear stroke, and much lower inductance. If you're not after balls-out SPL, the Maelstrom is the logical choice.
