Hi guys,
I need some advice (once again)!! ![]() My new setup will consist out of the following: 2 x strapped SAZ-1500D amplifiers 1 x bridged SAX-100.4 3 x Mag v4 The SAZ-1500D will be strapped and powering the Mags, meaning it will be playing at approx. 2400W @ 3 ohms The bridged SAX-100.4 will do approx. 320W RMS but I will not use it's full potential (guess around 200W - 250W). I already bought 2 new batteries; Kinetik Audio HC1800 for in the trunk. And I will leave the original battery in front. Now the problem is my car; I drive a Lexus IS 220d. The "d" stands for Diesel (yes I am from Europe and Diesel is way cheaper overhere or at least compared to gasoline). My car has a stock alternator of 130A, which is going to be a problem I guess. Anyways, before I start taking apart my car, to take pictures of my alternator and send them to Iraggi or Excessive Amperage, to let them build a custom one (which cost a lot of money incl. shipping). I want to make sure that I will need a bigger alternator, cause of my setup... To be honest; I wish I had never bought a Diesel car (Lexus IS 220d), cause you can hardly get (high output) alternators for my car... At least compared to the Lexus IS cars which are available in the USA (Lexus IS 250 and Lexus IS 350), for those Lexus cars there are High Output alternators to buy... But for mine... It's quite difficult and not to mention expensive. So will I be needing a bigger and better alternator, or will 130A be enough? :S A big thanks for the person who can explain me this very well!!!!

It all depends on the situation. If you are easy with the volume and have no accessories on, you could get by, but I don't see someone with 3KW+ on tap taking it easy on the volume knob.
I would highly suggest a HO alt, but not from Iraggi. |

To be honest, with my previous installation (2x JL Audio 1000 & 1x JL Audio 450/4) I already experienced problems with my power setup. Of course a part of that could be blamed on my old Optima Yellow Top, but still... Not enough power imho. When I turned the volume up, my capacitor (Lightning Audio SCC1 50 Farad Carbon Capacitor) with voltage meter started acting weird. Weird as in no more readable voltage at all! While it was seconds before showing approx. 13.4v (give or take a few). I also read some stuff you posted on SSA, but still I cannot seem to make my mind up. Why shouldn't I go with Iraggi? I read a lot of forums and postings and this guys alternators pop up frequently with satisfied people. Something wrong with his alternators? I also contacted Nathan from Excessive Amperage, but he needs more information on my stock alternator, since (here it comes) I drive a Diesel Lexus, which is unknown the United States market (and I can't blame him for that). Sure it doesn't sound that hard, to get a few pictures and some information regarding the stock alternator, but it's not very accessable. Also the price is pretty high, but I guess I have no choice. Can you recommend me some other company's / persons who build custom alternator (and possibly also for a Lexus Diesel)? Since you are (way) more experienced in the car audio system industry than me... I thought the alternator didn't make much of a difference between same brand cars, but apparently it does. Sorry for my English grammar if something does not sound correct. Thanks in advance!

I have a personal discontent for Iraggi with past experience. Many people will tell you the same. The guy is really hit or miss. He can build something great if he really wants to, but more times than not, it's junk.
Lexus/Toyota use Nippondenso for starters and alts on the petro vehicles, so I am assuming they would use the same on the diesel. Is there any way you can get me a part number to reference? I have some sources I may be able to use to cross. |

I to say stay away from Irragi alts. A buddy of mine went through two of them on his car (both left him stranded on the side of the road).
I can't see you needing more than the 130 amp if you have multiple batteries. I run two big nasty Powermaster batteries with my little 60 amp alt and everything is fine. However, I'm not running 3000 watts of power either.

Okay I will stay clear from Iraggi then. Thanks for the advice (both).
![]() Since I lack technical skills, I don't dare to take out the alternator myself, but I received the following information from a person on a Lexus forum in the UK: Quote:
And regarding that 130A should be enough; well to be honest, my old setup already caused problems (not enough power, batteries drained, etc.) so I really doubt the 130A will be enough. Also they didn't put a 130A alternor in my car for my car hifi. ![]() The Lexus has a lot of electrical systems, so I really think I need to upgrade my alternator. :S

I'll be a fellow Lexus owner by this weekend.
I'll let you know how my setup goes. However, I think you'll be done before I'll be done. I'm only gonna put 2 Mag's in the trunk.I'm picking up a champagne colored SC 400 with staggered wheels in the next few days.

Hehe sounds cool alright.
![]() Though I have a very long way to go still. Still undecided on the alternator, still need to build the enclosures and so on... Argh... Gives me a headache when I think of it. :S
