Default "Loud" and "Bass" functions on head unit

I was always told to turn the "loud" off and "bass" set to zero. Does actually turning the "loud"on and setting the "bass" to +2 damage subs?

Here's the story:
I bought an Adire Brahma MkIII off an internet dealer, but the sub was broke. The dealer offered a Stereo Intergrity Mag D2 (v3), I just had to pay the difference and I didn't have to send back the broke Brahma. So, I got the Mag and was happy. But I found out that Fi could recone the Brahma, so they did, and they did a great job. I put the Brahma in a 2.5 ft^3 box tuned to 33 and it was awesome. But I ended up putting back the Mag, after building a 2.0 ft^3 ported box for it. The Brahma ended up in my dad's car in a sealed box.

Well, big difference, I could barely hear anything in the sealed box. But it wasn't my car, and my dad didn't want a big box, so I left it alone. Well, my brother came to visit and borrowed the car. I rode in it and it was pretty loud. But he had the "loud" on and bass at +2. When I set the loud off and bass a 0 again the bass disapreared.

So, should I keep the loud on or turn it off?

rember going sealed you choose quality over quantity, as for the loud and bass boost and other things like BBA. i jsut don't use them, i tent to find they don't sound as good! and when you turn your volumn up the sound goes to crap!

does it hurt the sub well i could liek if they put more power to the sub it could be similar to putting the gain up on your amp! or you could be forcing the sub to play in a diffent way.

and or maybe when Fi repaired your sub maybe they did something wrong or it is coming undone, or maybe the problem is with the sub!

hope this helps!

What do you mean the bass disappeared? How many watts are you giving it?

The loudness setting usually tends to overemphasize the bass to distortion levels. The bass level should be used within reason. I have mine to +2 to match my front stage. I'm only running 385Watts to my subwoofer and I hear plenty off bass when I'm supposed to and at the right level to blend with the front stage. Some songs aren't supposed to sound like rap.

I need some time to play with his car which is probably this weekend or next. When the Brahma was in my car, it was a totally different system. It went from:

My 95 Mustang-------------------->His 05 Mustang
Alpine Head------------------------>Eclipse Head
Massive P1000.1------------------->Massive P1000.1
2.5 ft^3 box tuned to 30Hz--------->1 ft^3 sealed box

The Brahma D2 MKIII I have is rated at 600 Watts RMS, and the Massive amps are rated at 1000 Watts RMS @ 1ohm. The Alpine I have has 2V pre outs compared to the Eclipse's 5V pre outs. When I had the sub in my car, I had the gain at about the 10 o'clock position and the bass was loud enough for me. In his car I'm hessitant to turn the gain higher, but couldn't get any output with the gains set lower then the 12 o'clock position. I ended up leaving it at 10 so it dosn't blow the Brahma.

When I first received the sub (brand new) it was already blown. The cone was frozen, and if you apply enough preasure to move the cone, you can hear it scraping against something. It was never played. It was only after Fi fixed the sub did I actually get to play with the sub. Fi is great, and if it wasn't for a company called Stereo Integrity, I would probably be using a Fi sub right now.

I honestly do not know who many watts is being fed to the subs. I've only used Alpine heads, and this is my first experience with an Eclipse with 5V preouts. If I didn't look it up, I could swear the Eclipse was only putting out 2V.

Also, I listen to every type of music out there. I like everything from Rancid, Social Distortion, the Game, Jr Gong, Bob Marley, Koa'Uka (I'm from Hawaii), Hepcat, Mike Ness's country music stuff, Micheal Jackson, Jack Johnson, and everything else. But when I am checking out what my bass output is, I'm usually listening to some sort of Rap/Hip Hop music.

Does your deck have a Sub option to turn volume up? cause i know on the alpines it does. that sub control is for the sub preouts, it regulates the amount of voltage leaving it, it needs to be set on the highest under that setting, otherwise you get no bass at all. just a thought

The Eclipse has a bunch of options that I have to play with to figure out what's going on. The most I could figure from before is that it changes the Bass/MidBass/Highs to +numbers. But I'll find out tommorrow.

And my Alpine is an old model. One of the last that has a motorized face plate. It only has two pre outs. I use one for the front speaker amp, and the other for the sub amp.
