Default grounding your car!

okay so i have seen this thing on cars before and i have always wonder what is used for and or why people do it for!

basicaly it looks like a rubber strap hanging from their car. my question to anyone is why would you use this and why would you need this? i though your tires surve the purpose of grounding your car?

here is a pic of it let me know if you have ever seen this before.

It looks like a rubber piece, but it has metal in it. It hangs down and touches the ground when you're at a stop and it grounds your car so you don't get shocked when you get out. If they made these for my mom's Murano I'd buy them in a heartbeat! I get shocked every time I get out of her car.

I've never seen that before, but I agree, if they had them for our Trailblazer I would be happy, damn shock happy car.

Weird. I've never seen that before. But my Explorer likes to shock me a ton, every time I get out. Sometimes twice. I had my hand firmly on the door jam as I was getting out and closing the door, and it shocked me once then again about .5 seconds later without my hand moving at all. I was like wtf?

Here's a question:

How does it ground to asphalt or concrete? Asphalt isn't what I would consider a strong grounding surface...

Want your car to stop shocking you? Drink more water, use lotion, etc. ESD comes from dry air and your dry hands. Leather seats will help as well.

ESD (or comonly known as erection & sex dysfunction) comes from lack of sex and age due to spending to much time on forums and not enough time getting laid lmao! jk man no offence to you intended!

LOL!!!

See, you can't use acronyms like ESD on a public forum without it being thought of as sexual.

one quick note to the OP, how would your tires ground your car? rubber is an insulator, the tires are actually what save you in case your car gets hit by lightning or an electrical line falls on the car

also, the next time you see an ambulance, take a close look at its rear diff . ambulances use chains that drag the roads to ground out any unwanted electrical charge hiding in the vehicle. it can protect the electronics in there. i have never seen a passenger vehicle using these, but i can imagine they are used mostly by the most anal of audiophiles, and the owners of nissan muranos apparently

^^Again, I fail to see how Asphalt is considered a grounding surface...
