Question 2002 Blazer false floor enclosure...

As I'm trying to save as much space as well as make this install as "stealth" as possible, let me know what you guys think about this...

I want to build the sub enclosure as a false floor completely covering the entire cargo area of my Blazer from the spare tire on the left to the wheel well hump on the right side. The enclosure will be 3" tall (internal dim) using 0.75" MDF, so 4.5" external. On the outside, it will be 30" wide and 29" deep (from the rear seat to the tailgate). The driver will either be sitting vertically in the right rear corner, or mounted inverted facing straight down into the enclosure.

Another false floor will be on top of the enclosure to hide the amps, Epicenter, etc, etc, which will still allow me to throw stuff back there and actually use my cargo area for the most part.

Maybe I'll draw up a couple pics to help explain things a bit more. At any rate, what do you guys have to say about it?

And yes, it will be well braced throughout.

Many thanks in advance!

I think we need pics. I'm not quite understanding the false floor thing unless you plan on inverting the Mag. Even a drawing will suffice at this point to help us understand what you're talking about.

I won't mind if you laugh. I did! LOL

Anyway, here's a nasty drawing of what I plan on doing.

Just curious, how would this sub work in a critically damped enclosure of say 0.5cf AFTER displacement and with a little EQ added down low between 20-30Hz?

Well it arrived in all its glory! Packaging is first rate with nothing on the outside box giving any hint of this being any kind of electronics. I like that a lot! No "hifi" names plastered all over the shipping box or shipping label.

The Mag v4 is a very massive, very well made driver. Everything about it pukes out high quality. No sloppy glue overrun, everything perfectly aligned, clean, simple... Just a beautiful driver, the way it should be.

And the driver basket... HOLY $H!T!!! I have never seen a single driver basket that is so freakin' rigid and robust in all my life. To have this many spokes, and all of them to be this thick and stout (14 of them in total), you could take out a Sherman tank with one of these things! If this driver sounds anything like the way it's built, it's sure to be an absolute winner.

I for one am highly impressed, and that doesn't happen too often.

Of course, a few pics...

Oh ok, I see what you're doing now. I think it'll be a neat install with it positioned that way.

Unfortunately the driver won't work in 0.5 ft^3 sealed. It's simply too small. The minimum we recommend is 0.8 ft^3, and even that recommendation is with the enclosure heavily stuffed with polyfill.

I was just curious about the smaller enclosure, that's all. I know a lot of people like building critically damped enclosures for home audio, and then use a little EQ to bring up the bottom end.

Anyway, I took some measurements of the cargo area in my Blazer the other day. With an internal height of 3", I will have a total of 1.56cf to work with. After a little bit of unique bracing and driver displacement, I should be down around 1.2-1.3cf. Then again, if I add some poly-fill, I can easily regain that 0.2cf.

Once you add polyfill to the enclosure you'll be back up to the 1.5 ft^3 area, which will be perfect for the 500 watts you'll be throwing at it.
